I have a three day weekend coming up. Two big jobs are pending for this time off. One is to work on the GMRS repeater we set up at the local fire station. The other job is filling out the documents needed to purchase the house we are currently renting.

The repeater work involves installing some ferrite beads on the coaxial cable that connects the repeater to the antenna. There is some interference that randomly keeps the repeater open after we key it up. It's a horrible static-like noise that persists for about a minute before timing out. The antenna is on the same tower as VHF and 800 MHz antennas. We think the emissions from those other antennas are bleeding over and traveling down the ground sleeve. The ferrite beads should shield the repeater from receiving some of that high frequency current.

As for buying the house we are renting, we have some time to sit and look at the paperwork. We have the cash waiting to be credited to our account sometime next week. The purchase of the house is relatively easy given that no mortgage is involved. However, this is our first home purchase, so it's not simple to us.

I may convince myself to barbecue this weekend. Independence Day is usually a bit more fun. This year has extra servings of lame to give out. One can't even go to the public swimming pool. Although, I heard that the beach access will be open for Saturday only. We won't be taking a chance on that.

This post is also an experiment on using Engrave.website to run a blog. The service imported a bunch of old blog posts. However, newer posts need to be done through the service's interface. I'm OK with that. It just takes some getting used to. My posts will be visible at shaine.dblog.org for anybody interested. I hope someday they offer the ability to do custom domains.

Speaking of interfaces, I spent some time looking at different front ends to the Hive blockchain. It's fascinating that there are so many different communities running on Hive. There are two dedicated to cannabis. There's porn. There are STEM sites. There are a couple of Spanish sites, I think. There is something for almost everybody, it seems. I even visited some games that run on Hive. I am impressed how diverse the Hive universe is. I can't help thinking that I may be posting more frequently through different dapps. Up to now, I have only ever depleted my Vote Mana. If I like some of the dapps, I may make a dent on my Resource Credits for the first time. This is all exciting stuff.
