I read somewhere about tipping on Peakd. I was not certain how that would be different from just sending Hive to somebody else. In reality it is not. However, there is an advantage to the tipping feature that was not clear to me until now.
Sometimes, I like to explore older posts for some of the people I follow. I often do not pay attention to whether the posts are recent or past the seven day reward period. It turns out that tipping informs you that it is an old post and that you can reward the creator with a tip instead.
That's genius. Otherwise, I would have voted on a post that doesn't reward anybody. And, most likely, I would not have bothered to send any reward because it would involve switching to the wallet. Tipping just puts everything right there in the post where I can continue exploring.
This encourages me to keep a balance of liquid Hive so that I can tip some of the people I follow.
